Free School Meals (FSM)

ALL children in London State Primary Schools currently DO NOT have to pay for a school dinner.
For children in reception, year 1 and Year 2

Free school meals are provided as part of the universal infant free school meals programme (UIFSM) and automatically receive a free school meal.

For children in year 3 and above

The Mayor of London scheme also offers State Primary Children in London free meals for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. We will assume all new children have school meals unless you contact us to advise they need a packed lunch. If you are selecting a packed lunch, please inform the office of your decision. We strongly encourage children to have school dinners to encourage and promote social skills and to receive a balanced meal a day. You will have the option to change your selection before the next half term, but not during the half-term.

Extra Funding from the Department for Education (DfE) and Free School Meals (FSM)

Even though you do not need to apply for free school meals, families who are ALSO in receipt of qualifying benefits should complete an application form for free school meals using the FSM Eligibility Checker as our school will also receive extra funding from the DfE.  The extra funding is called the pupil premium and Tetherdown could get an extra £1,480 per child each year.

Eligible pupils

  • Will receive free school meals.
  • Will also qualify for the Holiday Activity and Food Programme.
  • Food vouchers may also be available through the Household Support Fund.

By applying, Tetherdown School will receive extra funding.

Tetherdown school could receive up to £1,480 in valuable extra funding from the Department of Education (DfE) through the Pupil Premium and Service Premium. This is designed to assist the school in providing additional support for children in certain circumstances and improve educational outcomes for disadvantage pupils in state-funded schools in England.
