EAL Banding

EAL Banding refers to the classification of English language learners based on their proficiency levels in English. The system is used to assess and support the learning needs of students who are learning English as an additional language. The most widely adopted scale, developed by The Bell Foundation, categorises proficiency across five levels (A–E). Each band includes descriptors spanning four key domains: listening, speaking, reading & viewing, and writing:
