Year 4 Anglo Saxons Workshop

Understanding the lives lived in the year 878 AD in Britain.

The children took part in an extraordinary workshop to help them understand the lives lived by those in Britain in the year 878 AD through practical activities and role-play. After a brief introduction to start the narrative, the children spent the morning in character exploring the different workstations set up within the hall.  Some of the activities included rune-casting, weaving, illumination, pottery and candle-making.

The children had the opportunity to role-play an Anglo-Saxon battle against the Daines.  In the afternoon, the children took on the roles of archaeologists and used their reasoning skills to identify the different artefacts and their purpose. The children enjoyed learning about the lives of the Anglo-Saxons and getting practical.
