Chess Team Success in the National Primary School Semi Final!

Congratulations to the children in the school U9 and U11 chess teams who competed in the National Primary Schools Chess Championship Semi Final

Congratulations to the children in the school U9 and U11 chess teams who competed in the National Primary Schools Chess Championship Semi Final held recently at Haberdashers’ Girls’ School.

The U9 Yr3 team - Ira, Ofek, Noah, Arbel, Woody and Louis - played teams from St Martin’s, Ecole Jeannine Manuel, York House and St John’s.

The U9 Yr4 team - Darshan, Louis, Ollie, Mihailo, Daniel and Alex - faced teams from John Locke Academy, Kew College, St Martin’s, Merchant Taylor’s Prep and local rivals Muswell Hill Primary.

The U11 team - Yr6 Ivor and Yr5s Daniel, Olly, Aaru, Huru and Rohan - played teams from Royal Masonic School, The Breakspear School, Whitings Hill Primary, Haberdashers’ Boys’ and St Martin’s.

Having got through the Zonal Qualifiers earlier in the year, the teams were up against some of the stronger chess schools and junior players from London and the surrounding counties.

They did really well and finished with creditable scores.

More importantly, the children enjoyed their chess day out and the opportunity to play chess against children other than their friends in the school club.

All children should be really proud of their achievement. The experience of playing tournament chess will stand them in good stead in next year’s Championship!
