Relationships & Sex Education

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is about the emotional, social and cultural development of pupils, and involves learning about relationships, sexual health, healthy lifestyles, diversity and personal identity, including awareness of LGBTQ+.

RSE involves a combination of sharing information, and exploring issues and values and we provide opportunities for children to discuss and be heard. We explore changes to our bodies over time and go into more specific detail with children in Years 5 and 6. In the older year groups children at Tetherdown are taught Sex Education (outside of the Science Curriculum).

The content of these lessons includes learning about reproduction, pregnancy and birth. Parents may, with consent, withdraw their child from this learning if they choose to.

Our RSE programme provides children opportunities to develop and understand respect for themselves and others, acceptance of difference and a healthy approach to understanding the cycles of human life.
