Headteacher News

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope this message finds you well and staying cool. With the weather so hot, even the ice cream trucks are considering early retirement! Thank you for ensuring your children come to school with hats and sunscreen. If they happen to forget their water bottles, there's no need to worry—our school provides cups for drinking water from the taps.

Welcome back to Ms Jenna Hughes who has returned from Maternity, she has settled in well as she takes over Y1 Dragonflies for the final term.

We've had numerous highlights this month, but the funniest must be when Olympic Bronze medallist Nial Wilson visited our school. Not only did he share inspiring stories about his gymnastics career, but he also performed a double flip over me! His talk on resilience and hard work to achieve your dreams was truly motivational.

STEAM Summer Exhibition

It was wonderful to see so many smiling parents at our STEAM Summer Exhibition. I felt incredibly proud of the outstanding quality of work our children produced this year and the delightful concert they performed. A massive thank you to all the staff, including our office and site managers, for their hard work in making the afternoon amazing.

Keep the Lights On Fund

As I mentioned in my speech at the Exhibition Concert, we are facing a really challenging educational landscape. Nearly 80% of schools are facing deficits, a consequence of various factors. We are determined, in the face of these challenges, to provide not only a strong academic foundation but also robust support for our children's social and emotional needs, creating a safe and inspiring place to learn.

What You Can Do To Help

Donate

You can make a direct impact by scanning the QR Code provided. The QR code entitled "Keep the Lights On" will focus on improving our building and learning environment. Your donations will help upgrade the blue floor bathrooms and install sun protection screens in classrooms to provide a cool environment during hot summers.

Other Ways to Help

1.Spread the Word

Word of mouth is the most effective marketing tool, even on social media. Share information about our school with your friends and family.

2. Get Involved with the Friends of Tetherdown

Support our fundraising efforts by becoming a committee member, class representative, or by simply getting involved. You can email us at Tetherdownpsachair@gmail.com.

3. Business Contacts and Match Funding

If you have any business contacts who may be interested in working with us or in match funding, please contact Michelle Moss at businessmanager@tetherdownschool.org.

Your support is crucial in helping us create the best possible environment for our children to learn and grow. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to our school's future.

Important Reminder: Safe and Respectful Parking Practices

We need your help to ensure the safety and convenience of our school community and our neighbors. Please remember:

  • No Parking on Zig Zag Lines: These lines are designated for the safety of our children. Parking on them obstructs visibility and puts our students at risk.
  • Respect Our Neighbours: Please avoid parking outside our neighbours' driveways. They need to be able to get their cars out without any difficulty.

Your cooperation is crucial in keeping our school area safe and our neighbours and community happy. Thank you for your understanding and support

Friends of Tetherdown Update
The summer term is always busy, so thanks for all the amazing support we’re getting from all our families. All our efforts are now going towards the school’s three-year plan to develop brilliant Outdoor Learning and Play facilities (OPAL).

Silent Disco
The kids’ had an absolute ball this week at their silent discos. The sun shone, and they rocked to their favourite tunes in the outside playground by year group. Plus, this fun activity raised over £2k In voluntary contributions, which is awesome - a big thank you to everyone.

Tetherdown Auction
The auction is closing this evening and, as ever, we’ve had some wonderful lots, including comedy, football tickets, a mathnasium voucher, some delicious food, loads of fitness activities and those much sought-after teacher experiences.  The bidding so far has been busy, and we’ve still got the final bidding wars to come! Good luck everyone!

Summer Festival
Our biggest fundraiser of the year will take place on Sunday 14th July (11.30am-3pm). As always, we're heavily reliant on everyone to support via volunteering on stalls (please respond to your class rep), donating items and generally helping out on the day.

Donations dates are as follows:
  • From now - Lego
  • W/c 1st July  - Chocolates and sweets (NUT FREE)
  • W/c 8th July - Nearly new items (Gift-worthy!)
  • On the day - Cakes and bakes
There’ll be music, fun, food, kids' stalls and the ever-popular inflatable slide, so feel free to bring along your friends and family so we can make it a great fund-raising day for the school!

Avoid the queues and buy your entrance/tokens in advance - available now on Classlist: https://app.classlist.com/parent/#/events/view/1152162362?s=832640692&utm_source=SCHOOL&utm_medium=SHARED_LINK

Advertising boards
Thanks so much to the amazing families who agreed to have the Tatlers advertising boards outside their homes. It’s a really simple and great way to raise funds, and we really appreciate your volunteering.

FoT Members
Our committee has only 9 members in a school of 400 pupils, which means we’re always under pressure to do so much on top of our jobs and raising our families.

We’d love to have some new members to help support us! Even though it’s a commitment, it’s also great to be doing something for our community and our amazing school which is terribly underfunded…and we have lots of fun.  So, if you want to join the committee or have an idea to share or you’d like to sign up to be a regular volunteer for individual events, please get in touch: TetherdownPSAchair@gmail.com.

Many thanks!
The FoT

One click in support of children's learning experience

A quick message to remind any of you who can afford anything between £5-50 per month to consider supporting the school in the most amazing way by setting up a direct debit.

It’s the easiest and most effective way to ensure the school has the resources it needs, as government funding hardly covers more than the cost of the teachers themselves.

It’s a really quick thing to set up and the impact on our kids is invaluable. We know times are tough but without the volume of events we had previously, every contribution really makes a difference. Click here to set up a direct debit.

Thanks in advance for your support.

OFFICE REMINDERS

PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE A NO NUTS SCHOOL

Products containing nuts (including for staff as some may also have allergies) must not be brought into school under any circumstances.

Considerate Driving and Parking Please!

If you must drive to school to drop off your child(ren) please consider our neighbours when parking near the school.  We have received complaints that some parents are parking across driveways and blocking house owners in.  It would be far healthier for children if parents could park a little way from the school and walk or scooter to school.  Scooters may be stored at school.  We do not have bicycle storage

Gentle Reminders

Reporting Absences and Pick-up

Reporting Absence

We always require absence information, including unplanned absence, to be reported daily before 9am.

  1. If your child is absent please call the school office before 9am.
  2. Leave a clear message with your child’s full name and class and a brief reason for the absence (e.g. religious holiday).
  3. Unwell pupils: If your child is unwell, we ask that you report your child as off ‘sick’ and briefly describe their sickness (e.g. temperature, headache or has vomited etc). By describing your child’s sickness this will enable the school to track and manage a sudden increase in occurrences of the illness and identify whether we have a localised outbreak of the illness (e.g. virus).

Reporting Pick-Up

If your child is going home with someone different to their regular person collecting them, please remember to communicate arrangements via the admin email before 2:45pm stating your child’s full name and class and who is collecting them.

Please do not email teachers as they are unable to check emails during the teaching day.

*****

For absences and pick-up arrangements report to:

020 8883 3412

admin@tetherdownschool.org

Official Appointments

If your child is going to be absent for an appointment such as:

  • medical (e.g. dentist, hospital appointment) or an
  • an official appointment (e.g. visa application, passport office)

Families must provide proof of the appointment to the school office via email. Please remember to include your child's full name and class in all correspondence.

You do not need to fill in the absence request form for medical appointments, or official appointments.

All other Leave Requests

Please complete an exceptional leave of absence form for all other leave requests. You can find this form on our website under the Parents tab. Click here to go to access online absence request form.

Extra Curricular Club Cancellation

Extracurricular Club Cancellation

Recently, one of our extracurricular club providers needed to cancel their club. Communications are sent to families as soon as we are made aware of cancellations.

Please can families note the process below for any future club cancellations. This information is a standing item in our newsletter and on our website clubs and activity camps page. Thank you in advance.

  • If your child's extracurricular club at the end of the school day is cancelled by the provider, parents are advised to make alternative pick-up arrangements for their child and to notify the school office via email of the new arrangement no later than 2:45pm. Parents should not assume that the Tetherdown after-school club can take their child following a club cancellation if they cannot make alternative pick-up arrangements.

  • Children who normally attend the Tetherdown after-school club directly after the cancelled extracurricular club (e.g. tennis) can go straight to after-school club at the end of the school day, however you will be charged accordingly for this session via ParentPay.

Children Leaving Tetherdown

If you are planning on leaving Tetherdown it is important that you inform the school as soon as possible. Please fill in the destination form which can found on our School Forms & Links page.

Medicines in School

As a reminder that medicine cannot be given to your child to bring into school. The school can administer prescribed medicine only (the parents form on our website must be filled in). Any over the counter medicine must be administered by a parent / nominated carer. Please refer to our Health & Welfare pages for further details.

Forgotten Items

The school does not accept forgotten items. We aim to promote independence and responsibility in our children. This includes snacks and packed lunches, water bottles, PE kits, instruments etc. We can accept medical and reading glasses. If a child has forgotten their lunch one will be provided and will be charged via your ParentPay account.

Unhealthy Treats

We are a healthy school and as such we kindly ask that children do not bring in sweets or cakes/biscuits to hand out to their friends on their birthday. A class book donation is always much appreciated. We will share your book-gift with the class and insert a special book plate to mark the occasion of your child's birthday.
