Headteacher News

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you so much to all those families who were able to join us last week for our Summer Concert and Exhibition.  I am extremely proud of the children who all performed so well and really brought to life our recent focus on the “Arts” through their wonderful singing, amazing art displays and creative writing.  I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to wander around the school and absorb the celebratory atmosphere.

Children in the recent Year 3 Parrots Class Assembly were amazing: confident, clear, enthusiastic – so lovely to see. Well done!

Looking forward to the next few weeks, teachers are busy preparing your child’s End of Year Report, which will be sent electronically to all families on Friday 14th July.  Sending via email, enables us to make cost savings on paper and helps save the environment.  Please take the time to carefully read and digest the information your child’s teacher will have written and use the link included to respond and make a comment should you wish to.  Your support in following through with any targets identified will be much appreciated as your child moves up to their new class or school.

Parents and carers of children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6 will, in addition, receive a formal statement of their child’s attainment for the end of the year. This information is shared with their new class teacher (or passed on to the receiving school) to ensure a smooth transition for the new academic year.

In addition, parents and carers of families in Years 2 and 4 will know how the children will be mixed as they go up in September – all please look out for an email on Monday 3rd July for the name of your child’s new class teacher.  All children (in Reception to Year 5) will meet their new class teacher on Tuesday 4th July.

At this point we are supporting the Year 6 children as they prepare to leave Tetherdown at the end of term. Meetings and conversations are currently being held between Year 6 and Year 7 staff at receiving schools. I know that many of our children are very excited by the prospect of moving on, and we hope that, should you have any concerns, you approach the class teacher directly. All Year 6 children are currently in the throes of rehearsals for the upcoming production of “Annie” and I would like to thank those parents who have been able to provide support, so far.

On Wednesday 28th June we welcomed many new parents of children joining Reception. It was a great opportunity to meet face to face and share information. Many of the children visited their new classes and teachers this month.  We look forward to working with our new families in the new year.

With only three weeks to go, I hope your child continues to enjoy all the learning opportunities the class teachers have to offer, including Friends of Tetherdown Summer Fair on Sunday 16th July (11.30 – 3.00pm).  Please check our website and update your diaries / calendars so that you don’t miss out. Please be aware that we break up at the end of term on Thursday 20th July at 2.00pm, (No After School Club) but I will write again to you all before the end of the year.

Thank you for your continuing support.

The Friends of Tetherdown are so grateful to all families who pledged & bid so generously to support our online auction and to those that gave a voluntary contribution to the Silent Disco - the kids had a great time!

We really appreciate that giving extra funds isn’t easy for many people so a MASSIVE thanks to all of you for the incredible support you've shown so far.

The final event of the year is our Summer Festival on Sunday 16th July at 11:30-3pm.

There are loads of ways to support this big important fundraiser apart from coming on the day and having fun with your family. See flyer and speak to your rep for ways to donate, volunteer and spend!

This year all our events are raising money to support the school’s impressive outdoor learning project and their much-needed IT revamp. We’ve also managed to give £100 to each teacher for a class-specific revamp, which was really well received. We've donated bean bags & rugs, books & board-games, sensory fidget toys, wall murals and much more - we hope the kids have been talking about their new classroom additions.

As always, the committee door is always open; and we’re looking for new members to join us next year so get in touch and get involved!

Many thanks

One click in support of children's learning experience

A quick message to remind any of you who can afford anything between £5-50 per month to consider supporting the school in the most amazing way by setting up a direct debit.

It’s the easiest and most effective way to ensure the school has the resources it needs, as government funding hardly covers more than the cost of the teachers themselves.

It’s a really quick thing to set up and the impact on our kids is invaluable. We know times are tough but without the volume of events we had previously, every contribution really makes a difference. Click here to set up a direct debit.

Thanks in advance for your support.

As part of this, we want to hear from you!

Community Safety and Hate Crime Strategies 2023-27

What?

The Community Safety strategy will shape the work of the Haringey Community Safety Partnership, which is chaired by the council alongside the police and other bodies working to make the borough safer. The strategy sets out the partnership’s approach and priorities to improving the safety of our residents, business, and visitors to support a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough. The Hate Crime strategy outlines the ways the council responds to and works to prevent hate crime affecting our diverse communities. Both strategies will run for a period of four years from 2023-27.

Why?

We know that crime and community safety are top priorities for our residents, and as a council we are committed to making sure that everyone, regardless of their background, their circumstances or where they live, can feel safe, secure, and confident in every corner of our borough. We know that our communities are the experts on these issues, so we want to hear as many views as possible on how we can improve community safety and tackle hate crime in Haringey.

How? - Open to all!

We want to hear from all people who live, study, work, run a business, or visit the borough. We also want to hear from our partners and community and voluntary organisations in the borough.

The engagement period will last for 12-weeks from this Tuesday the 30 May, to the 22 August.

You are invited to complete a short survey here: | Haringey Council.

MANAGING COVID-19

Symptoms, Testing and Guidance for COVID-19

For symptoms, testing and guidance for COVID-19 please refer to our COVID-19 website pages which contain information that we hope parents find helpful and useful including:

  • How to report a positive CIVID-19 test.
  • Timeline for isolation.
  • My child has tested positive - what happens next?
  • COVID-19 links to guidance, advise and FAQ.

We appreciate that there may at times be some confusion on ways to respond, but we are doing our best to ensure as many children can come to school on a regular basis so that risks to your child’s continuing education in the current climate is reduced.

OFFICE REMINDERS

PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE A NO NUTS SCHOOL

Products containing nuts (including for staff as some may also have allergies) must not be brought into school under any circumstances.

Considerate Driving and Parking Please!

If you must drive to school to drop off your child(ren) please consider our neighbours when parking near the school.  We have received complaints that some parents are parking across driveways and blocking house owners in.  It would be far healthier for children if parents could park a little way from the school and walk or scooter to school.  Scooters may be stored at school.  We do not have bicycle storage

Parent Communication to Tetherdown

ParentPay - Communication from Tetherdown

ParentPay is the schools Communications and Payment System All communications sent directly from the school are sent using ParentPay only.

Parents will receive an email from platform@parentpay.com - when you receive messages from this email you can be assured this is an official direct school communication.

Any undelivered emails to parents the school are notified - we have not been notified of any undelivered messages to date.

Text and Email Alerts

Parents are advised to set up text and email alerts to ensure that you do not miss any important information from Tetherdown. Details of how to do this can be found on our Payment & Bookings System pages. If you have missed an email please search your mailbox for platform@parentpay.com messages and check junk mail.

If you are having any problems receiving official school communications please contact the school office after you have checked your mailbox and junk mail and not ParentPay.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Extracurricular Club Cancellation

This week one of our extracurricular club providers cancelled their club. Please can families note the process below for any future cancellations. Thank you in advance.

  • If your child's extracurricular club at the end of the school day is cancelled by the provider, parents are advised to make alternative pick-up arrangements for their child and to notify the school office via email of the new arrangement no later than 2:45pm. Parents should not assume that the Tetherdown after-school club can take their child following a club cancellation if they cannot make alternative pick-up arrangements.

  • Children who normally attend the Tetherdown after-school club directly after the cancelled extracurricular club (e.g. tennis) can go straight to after-school club at the end of the school day, however you will be charged accordingly for this session via ParentPay.

Official Appointments

If your child is going to be absent for medical or official appointment you must provide proof of the appointment to the school office via email. Please remember to include your child's full name and class in all correspondence.

Medicines in School

As a reminder that medicine cannot be given to your child to bring into school. The school can administer prescribed medicine only (the parents form on our website must be filled in). Any over the counter medicine must be administered by a parent / nominated carer. Please refer to our Health & Welfare pages for further details.

Forgotten Items

The school does not accept forgotten items. We aim to promote independence and responsibility in our children. This includes snacks and packed lunches, water bottles, PE kits, instruments etc. We can accept medical and reading glasses. If a child has forgotten their lunch one will be provided and will be charged via your ParentPay account.

Unhealthy Treats

We are a healthy school and as such we kindly ask that children do not bring in sweets or cakes/biscuits to hand out to their friends on their birthday. A class book donation is always much appreciated. We will share your book-gift with the class and insert a special book plate to mark the occasion of your child's birthday.
