News Round- Up
Dear Parents and Carers
We had a special visitor this week – Mr Evans – who came back to work with Year 4 children as part of their science and topic work on Rainforests. A lovely morning was had by all and you can get all the details as you read further on in our Newsletter.
I have been delighted in the last few weeks to see children taking part in trips and workshops across all age groups. Of course, we maintain high standards of expectation relating to covid health & safety to ensure that all involved remain safe. But I can honestly say, the children have really enjoyed their learning experiences whether it be in or out of school. Please read on for further details.
With respect to our ongoing challenge on the alleyway, I would urge all parents to be vigilant at drop-off and pick-up when cars are driving up and down so that you and your child remain safe. We are in communication with many of the parties involved, including the Health & Safety Executive, the Local Authority and indeed, residents. However, we are finding very little support for our cause in establishing appropriate times for using this private access road – and it is an access route. From my point of view, I would encourage you to continue raising your concerns with your local counsellor, and indeed you MP, should you feel strongly enough to take action. We are doing our best at this end and will keep you informed of our progress.
On a more functional level, I would like to ask that all parents and carers read this newsletter right through to the end – and if possible, with your child – so that you are kept up to date with all information, celebrations and reminders. One such reminder I would like to bring up is our policy on responding to communications, which we will do within a 5 working day period. Please bear in mind that some of our staff work part-time and so 5 working days, may, in reality, be slightly longer. 5 working days allows the recipient to explore the topic or issue and make an informed decision. You should by now have the contact details of your child’s class teacher, and we are working on providing all contact details which can be viewed on the school website.
I look forward to an exciting and inspiring term with the children, particularly as we approach the Christmas celebrations of parties, lunches, jumpers and more, all of which we will update you on via this newsletter. Our decision around class parties and the organisation is that we would very much appreciate food donations and game prizes being organised by parents, but the internal management and organisation will be handled by teachers (sadly, no parent helpers) so that we can manage the health & safety aspects of the current covid restrictions. I have just this minute written to Santa and reminded him that, should he be visiting Tetherdown, he will need to remember to wear a face covering! We are sad not to have our lovely parents helping in school, but I hope you will appreciate our position.
I look forward to your continuing support.
Kind regards
Tony Woodward
